In the latest Indiana Jones film, the hero from the title is played by the now 81-year-old Harrison Ford. But don't worry, with AI we can make him a lot younger. In the Star Wars films, we saw Carrie Fischer and Peter Cushing reprise their roles, but the bizarre thing was that the actors were both deceased. AI makes it possible, but by now much more can be done. What will that do to the wonderful world of film? We talk about that in the 12th episode of AI Garage.
Film Doctor
Twan Arts is a cinephile and lecturer in film at Fontys. He is also a self-proclaimed film doctor and enjoys watching film, reading about film and talking about film. In short, the ideal guest for an episode in which we look at the impact of AI on his beloved medium. Because AI has an awful lot of wonderful applications. Ever watched a film that has been overdubbed (meaning the original spoken language has been replaced by another)? With AI you can solve that, by generating speech and adjusting the image accordingly. So Harrison Ford can suddenly speak fluent Dutch, for example (or Cillian Murphy had just spoken a little less inimitable Dutch in Oppenheimer). On the other hand, what does it do to being an actor if you can still make Indiana Jones films 100 years from now?
Future
Erdinç and Twan talk at length about the future of film (and the past). About filmmakers, and how to embrace AI in a way that keeps your creativity intact. About fans, who can still be drawn into a special experience. Especially in cinemas full of immersive technology, which certainly haven't lost their magic yet!
