Fontys ICT’s MHBO programme in the spotlight at Brainport Eindhoven

An HBO degree a year earlier and a faster route into the labour market: that is the aim of the new MHBO programme run by Fontys ICT, Summa and Yonder. ICT students who follow the new MHBO programme offered by Fontys, Summa and Yonder will graduate with their HBO degree a year earlier thanks to this programme. The initiative aims to improve the transition from senior secondary vocational education (MBO) to higher professional education (HBO), prevent students from dropping out and guide them into the labour market more quickly. This is sorely needed, as there is high demand for ICT professionals, including in the semiconductor sector. Lieke Buiks, educationalist and coordinator of the MHBO programme at Fontys ICT, is therefore delighted that the programme is proving popular. ‘Three-quarters of the students eligible to take part have signed up.’ This is a clear confirmation of the need for a better link between vocational education (MBO) and higher professional education (HBO).
