Fontys ICT alumni Audrey Kawarmala ('12) and Kevin Reumkens ('12) have written and published their first children’s book, *Django vliegt uit*, with Veltman Publishers.

After their studies, Kevin entered the world of online marketing and took a job as a creative developer. Audrey started working as a designer in higher education and has also been working as a freelance illustrator (under the name Audrey Victoria) for over fourteen years.

This is their story...

Ten years later, we are married, enjoying our fulfilling life in Brabant, and in December 2024 we became the proud parents of our son Charlie.

After ten years, it was time to strike out in a new direction. Audrey learnt to draw characters so that she could fulfil her long-awaited dream: creating a picture book. All the illustrations in this book have been hand-drawn by Audrey, from the very first sketch to a fully finished page. The story (presented in humorous rhymes) comes from Kevin’s creative mind.

Over the past few years, the couple have been on some truly unforgettable journeys, with a road trip through South Africa being our very first big holiday. The book is inspired by this trip and our pet Django – the happiest little parakeet we sadly had to say goodbye to a while ago. In this book, we combine his curiosity with our love of discovering the world. It has become a magical adventure that we would love to share with you.

Audrey first suggested the idea for this book during their honeymoon in Hawaii. We were both enthusiastic and knew we really had to do something with it.

Years went by. We kept working on our book and believing in it. From the illustrations and writing the manuscript, to that moment sitting at the table with our publishers at Veltman.

That moment felt like a dream, but we are so grateful and delighted with this opportunity! Four years after that moment on the beach, the book is finally here! Django Takes Flight! We can now finally share it with you. And we are so proud. We hope you enjoy reading Django!
